Your
telephone line is programmed with MAX Voice Mail System. If
you don't answer a call within four rings, the call will forward
to MAX where the caller will be invited to leave a message.
MAX will then let you know that you have a message by initiating
a "call back." When MAX initiates a "call back," your phone
will ring once and the light will start flashing. Then, simply
pick up the receiver, press the "call back" button and enter
your MAX ID code as soon as you hear MAX's voice. You can
call MAX to check your messages if you are away from your
residence hall room by calling 5795 from any other campus
phone or 274-5795 from off campus.
Callers
who leave a message for you will be greeted by a generic name,
which is your extension number; however I encourage you to
record your own personal unavailable message. Simply call
MAX at 5795, enter your ID code and then press "1" for "yes"
when MAX asks if you want to record a new unavailable message.
When
you first use MAX, it will be set up with a generic ID code
of "9" followed by your extension number. (For example, extension
3829 would have ID code 93829.) For your security, I recommend
that you change your ID code to a personalized code known
only to you, so that no one else can access your voice mail.
To change your ID code, see Julie Bamrick at the reception
desk in the Lewis Hall lobby. You will be billed $5.00 each
time you change your ID code. DO NOT give your code to any
one else.
There
are a few other tips you need to know to use MAX. MAX will
prompt you with questions that can be answered either "yes"
or "no," so to respond to MAX, simply press "1" to answer
"yes" or "2" to answer "no." If you'd like MAX to repeat what
you just heard, press "7." If you'd like to skip ahead in
a message, press "9," or if you'd like to pause the message,
press "8." When you hear a message and decide you don't want
to save it, simply press "2" twice. You must do this before
the end of the message. (I usually do this as soon as MAX
starts giving me the time of day that the message was recorded.)
If you don't delete a message, it will be saved as an old
message and then the system will automatically delete it after
9 more days. MAX will save new messages for you for 21 days,
but if you haven't listened to them within 21 days, they will
be deleted. As a student, MAX will initiate a "call back"
to you between 10:00am and 11:00pm. If you'd like to check
your messages after those "call back" hours, you can call
MAX on 5795. You must also know that the only way to get rid
of the flashing light and "message, message, message" voice
when you pick up the phone is to press the "call back" button
on your phone. You may retrieve your messages by calling MAX
on 5795, but only by pressing "call back" on your individual
telephone in your room will you eliminate the flashing light
and the "message" voice.
Your
telephone line is also programmed for delayed call waiting.
This means that when you are talking on your phone, you will
hear a "ring tone" to signal you that another call is coming
in on your line. At this point you may choose to ignore the
tone and continue the conversation. If that's the case, after
the caller hears four rings, the call will forward to MAX
where they can leave a message. If you choose to answer the
second incoming call, you must press the "hold" button on
your phone and then hang up. This will allow the second call
to ring and be answered. To alternate between calls, press
your "hold" button.
If
you have any other questions on the MAX system, do not hesitate
to call Julie Bamrick at ext. 5182
