Student awarded two national scholarships from first-year honor society

Lisa GrosvenorLisa Grosvenor, a Morningside College student from Newcastle, Neb., was one of 10 students in the nation to be awarded the top Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship from the National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta. She also was one of 10 students in the nation to receive the James Stemler Study Abroad Scholarship from that same organization.

Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence among first-year college and university students. Since its inception in 1924, the national honor society has grown to find homes on over 250 campuses throughout the United States.

This year Alpha Lambda Delta awarded 35 Trow scholarships – 25 for $1,000 and 10 for $3,000. Selection was based on academic records, participation in Alpha Lambda Delta activities, applicant statements, and campus and community activities. Grosvenor was one of the students to receive a $3,000 scholarship.

In addition, Grosvenor received one of ten $1,000 study abroad scholarships the first year they were awarded. She will spend the next school year studying in Northern Ireland.

Grosvenor is the daughter of Robert and June Grosvenor of Newcastle. She is a 2008 graduate of Newcastle High School. Her major at Morningside is American history and world history teaching.

Chapter advisors for Alpha Lambda Delta are Marty Knepper, professor and chair of English, and Terri Curry, vice president for student life and enrollment.
