Morningside College President John Reynders greets visiting students from Yamanashi City, Japan

Morningside College welcomes delegation from Yamanashi City, Japan

As part of an ongoing exchange program between Sioux City and its sister city of Yamanashi City, Japan, Morningside College hosted a visiting Yamanashi City delegation on campus August 6.

Members of the Japanese delegation, which consisted of seven middle school students and three adults, were guests of President John and Robin Reynders for lunch in the Helen Levitt Art Gallery and received a brief tour of the college campus. Dr. Craig Wansink, a 1984 Morningside graduate and chair of the college’s board of directors, joined the group for lunch. When he was a student at Morningside, Wansink studied abroad at Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakata, Japan.

In addition to the stop at Morningside, the Yamanashi City group also visited Sioux City’s city hall, Irving Elementary School, Jolly Time Popcorn, Palmer Candy Company and attended a Sioux City Explorers baseball game.

Earlier this summer, a delegation from Morningside College visited Yamanashi City as part of a trip to Japan. Annie McInnis, a 2008 Morningside graduate, teaches English in Yamanashi City through the exchange program between Sioux City and Yamanashi City.
