Morningside College’s dance team had a pair of top three finishes at the 2011 Iowa State Dance Team Championships held Dec. 2 and 3 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Mustangs, under the direction of head coach Lindsay Christiansen, placed second in hip hop and third in pom in the college division.
Morningside competed against nine teams in hop hop and against six teams in pom.
St. Ambrose University won the hip hop competition, followed by Morningside, Clarke College, Grand View University, Central College, Simpson College, Wartburg College, Northwestern College, and Coe College.
Grand View finished first in pom, followed by St. Ambrose, Morningside, Wartburg, Central, and William Penn University.
The competition included 275 high school dance teams and 23 college teams.

Morningside College’s dance team won the Jazz Open competition and finished second in the Hip Hop Open competition at the 2011 NAIA Midwest Regional Competitive Dance and Cheer Competition held Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
The event, one of five regional competitions in the United States, featured teams from Concordia University, Doane College, Grand View University, Midland University, Missouri Baptist College, Morningside, St. Ambrose University, Waldorf College, and William Penn University.
The members of the Morningside dance team are Molli Byrne, Kalifornia Gray, Mary Horton, Courtney Lucart, and Kristi Rohde of Sioux City; Dusty Krager of Ida Grove, Iowa; Mallory Lowe of Panora, Iowa; Georgia Mize of Bronson, Iowa; Shelby Pomerenke of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; Rachel Thompson of Lawton, Iowa; and Nancy Seeman of Stanton, Nebraska.
