Morningside College will hold a boy's basketball individual day camp and a high school shootout during the month of June.

The individual day camp will be held Monday through Thursday, June 13-16, in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center and is for boys who will be in grades K-8 during the 2011-12 school year. Campers will be put into groups according to their age and ability levels. The morning session for grades K-4 will meet from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The gym will open at 8:30 a.m. each day for free shooting. The afternoon session for grades 5-8 will meet from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The camp will feature instruction from Morningside men’s basketball head coach Jim Sykes as well as Mustang assistant coaches and players. The camp will include basketball instruction, contests, awards, and daily games. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt.

Sykes is the camp director. Sykes guided the Mustangs to back-to-back Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) regular season championships in 2008 and 2009 and has led Morningside to three NAIA Division II National Tournament appearances since 2006.

The registration fee is $100, including a $50 non-refundable deposit. A $5 discount will be given to campers who register by June 1. A car pool rate of $80 per camper will apply to any group of three or more campers who travel together.

The high school shootout will be Monday, June 27. The shootout is for high school boy's basketball teams and will have a round-robin format. Campers must register as a team from one school. Teams will play a minimum of five games in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center-Allee Gym and the Hindman-Hobbs Center. Games will consist of two 15-minute halves.

The shootout will have multiple divisions for varsity and junior varsity. Registration fee is $300 per team, including a $100 non-refundable deposit. A $50 discount will be given to teams that register before May 15. Each team will receive 10 t-shirts.
