Three Mustangs Named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes

Blake Fostvedt, Cameron Meter, and Derek White have been named 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athletes.

Fostvedt, a junior defender from Council Bluffs, Iowa, has a 3.59 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with a major in business administration.

Meter, a junior midfielder from Lincoln, Neb., has a 3.96 cumulative GPA with a major in mathematics teaching.

White, a junior defender from Grimes, Iowa, has a 3.93 cumulative GPA with majors in physics and mathematics.

Student-athletes must be of at least junior academic status and have a minimum GPA of 3.50 in order to be eligible for Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.

Kraker And Meter Share Mustang Scoring Honors In 2011

Kory Kraker, a senior forward from Sioux City, and Cameron Meter, a junior midfielder from Lincoln, Neb., shared Morningside College scoring honors for the 2011 men’s soccer season.


Both players finished the campaign with five goals and two assists for 12 points.


Kraker finished his career as the 15th leading scorer in Morningside history with 25 career points, while Meter moved into 17th place on the Mustangs’ all-time scoring list with 19 career points.


Forrest Maxon, a freshman forward from Mission Viejo, Calif., led the Mustangs with four assists. Maxon also scored two goals to finish third on the Mustangs’ scoring chart with eight points.


Daniel Whithorn, a senior goal keeper from Omaha, Neb., defended the Mustangs’ goal for all but 18 minutes of the season. He finished the campaign with 105 saves, one shutout, and a goals against average of 2.69 goals per game. His 105 saves was the seventh highest single-season total in Morningside history.

Whithorn finished his Morningside career with 280 saves, 22 goal keeper wins, and eight shutouts to rank second in the Mustangs’ record book in each category.

Morningside posted a 4-13-1 record during the 2011 season and finished 10th in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) standings with a 2-7-1 league mark.

 

Two Mustangs Named To All-GPAC Honorable Mention List

Kory Kraker, a senior forward from Sioux City, and Cameron Meter, a junior midfielder from Lincoln, Neb., were each named to the honorable mention list of the 2011 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Soccer Team as selected by the league’s head coaches.


Kraker and Meter were the Mustangs’ co-scoring leaders this season as each player tallied five goals and two assists for 12 points.

Meter received honorable mention All-GPAC recognition for the second year in a row.


Morningside posted a 4-13-1 record during the 2011 season.

Fostvedt And LaFramboise Named To Academic All-District Team

Morningside College’s Blake Fostvedt and Jesse LaFramboise were named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District V Men’s Soccer Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).


Both players will be placed on the national ballot for the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Men’s Soccer Team.


Fostvedt, a junior defender from Council Bluffs, Iowa, has a 3.59 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with a major in business administration.


LaFramboise, a sophomore forward from Rapid City, S.D., has a 3.75 cumulative GPA with a major in biology.


Athletes must be of at least sophomore academic status, be a starter or significant reserve, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher to be eligible for Capital One Academic honors.

 

Mustangs Picked Fourth In GPAC Pre-Season Poll

Morningside was picked for a fourth place finish in the 2011 GPAC Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Pre-Season Poll.

The Mustangs posted a 6-10-2 record and finished seventh in the GPAC with a 4-5-2 league mark last season.

Morningside will open the 2011 season on Saturday, Sept. 3, with a 5 p.m. home match against Iowa Wesleyan College.
