 Larry "Mace" Mason, a 1973 graduate of Morningside and the most successful player in the history of the college's tennis program, will begin his fourth year as the Mustangs' head coach in the 2011 campaign.
He was a Morningside assistant coach during the 2007 campaign.
Mason played No. 1 singles all four years of his Morningside career. He compiled a 32-16 record in singles for the most singles triumphs in school history. Mason had a 27-18 record in doubles and 59 combined victories, both school record totals. He posted singles records of 9-4 as a junior and 9-5 as a senior. Mason and Russ McComsey teamed up for an 11-2 doubles record in 1973 to set a school record for doubles victories in a season.
After his graduation, Mason was the head tennis coach at Morningside for the 1974, 1975, and 1976 seasons.
Mason became head boy's tennis coach at Sioux City North High School in 1977. Over the next 21 years he guided the Stars to a 192-58 record in dual meets. His teams won 19 city championships and nine conference championships. He coached 69 state meet qualifiers and 18 state meet placewinners, including current Mustangs' assistant coach Mike Inman, who became Sioux City's first state singles champion in 1979. In state team competition, Mason guided North to 13 substate berths, four appearances in the state semifinals, and to a state runner-up finish in 1993. He had a 20-8 record in three seasons as North's head girl's tennis coach.
In 1999 he was certified as Professional 1 (the highest certification) by the United States Professional Tennis Association
Mason received the M-Club Coach of the Year award in 1979 and was inducted into the M-Club Hall of Fame in 1983.
He played his high school tennis at Sioux City Central, where his coach was M-Club Hall of Famer Herrold Asmussen.
Assistant Coach Mike Inman
 Assistant coach Mike Inman previously served as the Mustangs' head coach during the 2006 and 2007 seasons.
He previously coached at Buena Vista University, Duquesne University, and the Community College of Allegheny County.
Inman began his professional career as the assistant professional at Kansas City Racquet Club in 1988. He has also served as an instructor at the Lake Quivira Country Club in Lake Quivira, Kan., the Wichita Racquet Club of Wichita, Kan., and the Four Seasons Health Club in Sioux City.
He has coached 14 high school state champions throughout his career.
Inman is a 1984 graduate of the University of Iowa, where he played No. 1 singles for the Hawkeyes from 1982-84 and earned All-Big Ten Conference honors in 1984. Inman helped lead Iowa to a 21-6 record in 1984 for the best record in Hawkeye history.
He attended Sioux City North High School and became Sioux City’s first-ever prep state tennis champion when he defeated Dave Eberhardt of Dubuque Wahlert 6-0, 6-1, in the 1979 Class 2A singles championship match. Inman was the Class 2A state singles runner-up in 1978 and was named a high school tennis All-American by National Prep Magazine in 1977. He was the Sioux City men’s city champion in 1975 at the age of 14.
He won a national championship in mixed doubles at the 1990 Phillips 66 Tournament and was a Missouri Valley singles semi-finalist and doubles finalist the same year.
Inman received a master’s degree in religious studies from Central Seminary in Kansas City, Mo., in 1991 and a doctorate in systematic theology from Duquesne University in 1997.
