 In his 10 years at Morningside, Jamie Sale has established himself as one of the elite coaches in the nation while raising the Mustangs’ women’s basketball program to national prominence.
Sale was named the NAIA Division II National Coach of the Year in 2004, 2005, and 2009 after he guided the Mustangs to NAIA II National Championships in each of those seasons. His 2008-09 team finished with a perfect record of 38-0 to become only the second team in history to capture the NAIA II crown with an undefeated record after they defeated Hastings College 68-63 in the National Championship Game. Sale led the Mustangs to a 34-4 record in 2003-04 and the college’s first-ever national title in a team sport when Morningside defeated Cedarville University 87-74 in the NAIA II National Tournament Championship Game. He guided Morningside to a second consecutive national crown in 2005 when the Mustangs knocked off No. 1-ranked Cedarville 75-65 in the NAIA II title game to cap a 35-3 season.
Sale has compiled a 264-82 record for a .763 winning percentage at Morningside. He has guided the Mustangs to nine consecutive NAIA Division II National Tournament appearances and a school-record eight consecutive 20-win seasons. Sale led the Mustangs to five consecutive Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) regular season championships from 2004-05 to 2008-09. His teams have produced the seven highest single-season victory totals in school history. His 2005-06 Morningside team won the GPAC's post-season tournament and was the GPAC regular season co-champion with Hastings College to become the first team in league history to win both titles in the same season. Sale was named the GPAC Coach of the Year following both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.
He was the 2004 recipient of the Paul Maaske Memorial
Award presented by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association.
The award is presented each year to a non-Division I collegiate
coach in Iowa in honor of the former long-time coach at Cornell
College.
The transformation of the Morningside women’s basketball
program has been remarkable since Sale’s arrival. After
inheriting a team that had produced a combined total of only
five victories over the previous two seasons, Sale led Morningside
to a 7-19 record in his first season at the helm, followed
by a 17-16 record the next year for the school’s first
winning season since the 1992-93 campaign. Morningside also
qualified for the NAIA Division II National Tournament that
season for the school’s first national tourney appearance
since 1986.
Sale has brought a crowd pleasing style of basketball to Morningside
that features tenacious full-court defensive pressure and
a high scoring offensive attack featuring one of the most potent
3-point shooting attacks in NAIA history.
The Mustangs averaged a school-record 87.6 points per game
in 2003-04 and made a NAIA Division II record 400 3-point
field goals to shatter the previous national record of 311
3-pointers by Bethel College in 2001-02. The Mustangs made
a NAIA Division II National Tournament record 17 3-pointers
in their championship game victory against Cedarville.
Defensively, the Mustangs came up with a school-record 675
steals in 2003-04 season and pressured their opponents into
an average of 27.4 turnovers per game.
Sale has a 343-102 career record for a .771 winning percentage
in 13 seasons as a collegiate head coach. Eleven of his 12
teams have qualified for the NAIA National Tournament.
Sale was named the seventh head coach in the history of Morningside’s
women’s basketball program on March 26, 2001, following
a distinguished career at Briar Cliff University. Sale was
one of the nation’s most successful women’s basketball
coaches during his three seasons as head coach at Briar Cliff,
where he compiled a 79-20 record for a .798 winning percentage
and led the Chargers to three Sweet 16 or higher finishes
at the NAIA Division II National Tournament. His .798 career
winning percentage at Briar Cliff is a school record.

 Jill Bodammer is in her 10th season as a Morningside assistant coach.
She joined the Mustangs'
coaching staff following a highly successful playing career
at Briar Cliff University, where she graduated in 2001 as
the sixth leading rebounder and eighth leading scorer in school
history with 815 career rebounds and 1,559 career points,
respectively.
Bodammer led the
Chargers in scoring (16.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg) as
a senior en route to second-team NAIA Division II All-America
honors. Bodammer also received all-tournament honors at
the 2001 NAIA Division II National Tournament after she averaged
23 points and nine rebounds per game.
Bodammer is a
1997 graduate of Algona Garrigan High School, where she earned
Iowa Newspaper Association second-team Class 2A all-state
honors as a senior.
 Leslie Foral is in her second season on the Mustangs’ coaching staff following the completion of a playing career where she was a four-year starter and a three-time honorable mention All-GPAC selection. She finished her career as the 26th leading scorer in Morningside history with 869 career points. Foral averaged 6.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game and was a 76.3 percent shooter from the free-throw line during her career.
She was a starting middle blocker for the Mustangs' volleyball team during the 2010 season.
Foral graduated from Morningside in 2011 with a major in business administration. She is a 2006 graduate of Chadron High School, where she helped lead the team to state championships as a junior and senior. She earned second-team Class C-1 all-state honors as a senior.
 Bryan Alfredson is in his first season on the Mustangs' coaching staff. Alfredson, a 1992 graduate of Morningside and a past Morningside M-Club Coach of the Year, is the father of Mustang senior guard Brittany Alfredson.
He compiled a 141-91 career record as a girls basketball head coach at Lawton-Bronson and Woodbury Central High Schools. Whlie at Woodbury Central, Alfredson led the school to four district championships and the 2007 Maple Valley Conference Tournament championship.
Alfredson is also the head softball coach at Woodbury Central and guided the team to Iowa's 2002 Class 1A state championship.
 Dennny Lokken is in his first year with the Mustangs. He is the father of former Mustang standout Kate Lokken.
Lokken compiled a 310-179 career record as a boys basketball head coach at Underwood, Carroll, and Denison High Schools and was inducted into the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005.
While at Denison, Lokken amassed a school-record 175 victories and led the school to four state tournament appearances, including a Class 2A state runner-up finish in 1982.
