Job Requirements
This is an on-call position, will not guarantee a certain number of hours. Applicants must be hard working, dependable and flexible. Tasks may include set-up, tear-down, clean-up, provide security and will require semi-skilled abilities and heavy lifing.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs general manual work in the maintenance and operation of EFD Bureau properties.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Requires skill in the performance of unskilled and semiskilled tasks of a physically demanding nature. May have some heavy manual labor involved. As work experience is gained, employees of this class may be assigned to somewhat more difficult and responsible tasks, especially in the area of building maintenance, repair and cleaning procedures. Employees in this class work with and around and operate various pieces of machinery such as a genie lift, power scrubber, floor buffer, lawn maintenance equipment. Work normally is performed under close supervision; however, constant supervision is not always available for routine and repetitive tasks which can be carried on without difficulty once they are learned; work is frequently intermittent and on weekends and in the evening and night hours.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)
Sets chairs, tables and other EFD Bureau equipment;
May do manual work such as snow removal off the sidewalks, clean windows;
Some painting;
Cleans and re-stocks restrooms;
Maintains glass;
May make light repairs to specific equipment;
Cleans rugs with machinery;
May erect traffic barricades;
Waters, fertilizes, cultivates, and trims lawns, shrubs, flowers and trees;
Assists skilled workers in maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds and equipment;
May unload stone, gravel, asphalt and other materials;
Maintains floors, such as applying waxes sealants, and chemical strippers;
Performs other related manual tasks in the operation and maintenance of the EFD Bureau proper-ties.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the uses of common hand tools and standard equipment used in the construction and maintenance work, particularly as applied to the specialized work to which assigned; general mechanical ability and ability to perform unskilled to semiskilled tasks in the construction and maintenance activities; ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions; physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous manual labor for extended periods, under varying weather conditions, and be able to stand on concrete for ex-tended periods of time and be able to carry equipment up and down stairs; may be called upon to work intermittently; must have the ability to work graveyard shifts and weekends.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Some experience in performing general manual work and preferably completion of a standard grade school course; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
