Job Requirements
This position assists in the operation of the convention Center and Events Center by performing work as required with a gread deal of public contact. Examples of duties include ushering, taking tickets, guarding doors, directing parking, enforcing crowd control rules and regulations. This is a part-time seasonal/on call position with various hours including evenings and weekends, with no guarantee of hours.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assists in the operation of the Convention Center and audito-rium by performing work as required with a great deal of public contact; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work in this class involves public contact work. Employees in this class act as ushers, ticket takers, door guards and car parkers. They generally attempt to keep order and facilitate the safe movement of large crowds. An employee in this class normally works during evening hours and on a part-time basis. The work is performed under direct supervision.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)
Ushers patrons to their seats or informs them as to the particular section to which their ticket applies;
Ensures that patrons do not change seats;
Enforces crowd control rules and regulations;
Acts as a door guard;
Admits employees, special passes and other authorized persons through designated entrances;
Unlocks door and turns lights on and off;
Takes tickets for various Events Facilities Department functions;
Directs parking lot users to spaces;
Resolves minor traffic jams at lot entrances and exits;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Some knowledge of the general layout and seating arrangements in the Convention Center and Auditorium, or the ability to readily acquire such knowledge; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to meet and deal effectively and cour-teously with the general public and to keep order; ability to answer questions concerning the Convention Center and Auditorium in a correct and positive manner; ability to have good rapport with atten-dees at events; must be presentable and have the ability to wear uniforms as issued; must be in good physical condition.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Completion of a standard high school course or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
